You will probably recognise the distinctive voice of Alan Keegan before you see him. Known as the ‘Voice of Old Trafford’, he has been the official stadium announcer for Manchester United since 2000. From his pitchside podium, he is a familiar voice over the matchday mic for fans and visitors to the iconic football ground. 1-in-5 Mancunians claim Irish heritage, and Keegan is no different. With parents hailing from Leitrim, the family moved to Manchester in the 1960s seeking a better living for themselves. It’s a familiar story for much of the Irish community across Britain. Ireland will provide additional support to help children in war zones and other crisis areas to receive education. Minister Neale Richmond today announced €6m in funding for Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the UN’s fund for providing education in humanitarian crisis. Announcing the funding, Minister Richmond said: “As well as having to cope with displacement and further poverty, children in parts of the world facing humanitarian crisis also lose their access to education. The long-term impacts of this are enormous. Without education, they and their families remain trapped in crisis and poverty. “Ireland’s support for Education Cannot Wait provides a life-line to children displaced by war or disaster. It allows them to continue their education and gives them the chance to build better lives. Educating one child can lift whole communities out of poverty. It is essential and that is why Ireland is so committed to supporting education around the world.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/e-EykDzW

The Bloodroot exhibition, inspired by Annemarie Ní Churreáin’s debut poetry collection, brought together over 100 Irish female artists to explore themes of resilience, protest and belonging. Hosted by the Embassy of Ireland in the Netherlands in collaboration with the Hamilton Gallery in Sligo and Pulchri Studio in the Hague, the exhibition is a testament to how art can act as witness to both injustice and transformation. Ní Churreáin spoke to Ireland.ie about the importance of amplifying women’s voices in art and society: https://lnkd.in/emydvXzH #ThisIsIreland #SeoíÉire #IrishArt #WomensArt
